Going on a virtual date on MapleStory!

Florian Beach

Hellooo chewys! Today I’m gonna share something different. I had mentioned in my previous post that misterchewy had dengue fever and was stuck at home for more than a week. On the last few days of his medical leave, his platelet count showed a steady increase, his appetite resumed back to normal and he wasn’t feeling as lethargic as before. However, as he was still supposed to be resting at home, we went on a virtual date instead! πŸ˜€ Acting on his doctor’s advice, I stayed at my parents’s place because dengue fever can be spread if a mosquito bites a person with dengue, gets infected with the disease, and goes on to bite another person. How scary! :S

Drake

We were very sad that we couldn’t meet each other for more than a week and kept in touch through video call at night. Hehe. I would feel bad attending tastings or events while misterchewy had to suffer at home so I spent time playing MapleStory during weekends and after work πŸ˜›

Attacking drakes

When the husband felt that he didn’t really have to lie in bed all day, he started playing MapleStory too! In fact, he levelled up way too fast in one day and even helped me to train my character when I was at work. LOL!

It’s important to be on par with each other so that we can whack monsters together! My character looks a little retarded in the video cuz I was using one hand to play and the other to take video la.

LusterPixie

This is the current look of our characters! Cute right! πŸ˜€

Halloween

We even went on a Halloween quest together! It was really fun to do something different for a change. Best of all, it’s practically free! So this is another dating idea for all you couples out there! πŸ˜›

Couple Activity: Sushi and Burger Handmade Miniature Food Clay Art

DSCF0148-horz

There are so many unique things that you and your partner can do together as a couple and here’s what misterchewy and I did on our 3rd year dating anniversary! DENG DENG DENG DENG! Handmade miniature food clay art! One word, “FUN!!” best describes this! Even the husband thought so too! πŸ˜€

DSCF0094

Before I show you a little bit on the process of making the miniature food clay, these are the final products taken immediately after the workshop because we wanted to use the toothpicks for size comparison purposes πŸ˜› For the lesson, we could also choose to make bread, pastries, tarts or cakes other than sushi or burger. We decided to make our favourite food so it was sushi for me and burger for misterchewy! πŸ™‚

DSCF0073

The afternoon slot was already filled so we went in the morning, before checking into our hotel for our staycation. The workshop was held in a small room inside a camera shop at Chinatown, Pagoda Street, which is about 3 minutes walking distance from the MRT station.

DSCF0031

I did some online research and finally settled on attending Kin’s workshop. Firstly, Kin’s works are amazing and impressive. Secondly, she had a slot for us on our anniversary day even though it was at 10.30 in the morning. Lastly, Chinatown is near Novotel Clarke Quay so we didn’t have to travel all over Singapore.

DSCF0044

I asked Kin and she told us that she has been making miniature food clay for over 8 years! Not only is Kin very knowledgeable about the different types of materials suitable for making various types of miniature food, she is also very generous with her information which is what I like about her. You can ask her many questions and she will tell you as much as she knows.

DSCF0035

To start things off, I was given a small piece of resin clay and even though it was already white, I had to mix in a bit of white to make it even whiter. And from the piece of clay, I had to divide it equally into 4 smaller pieces because I was going to make 4 types of sushi.

DSCF0037

Poking holes to make it look like Japanese rice. Hehe.

DSCF0038

Looks cute right! One of them is without holes because I would be wrapping ‘seaweed’ around it.

DSCF0040

In the meantime, Kin was teaching misterchewy how to make salad for his burger set.

DSCF0048

Made tamago sushi first! Sorry I didn’t take the entire process because it would take up plenty of time. So you just use your imagination ok? πŸ˜›

DSCF0049

Tuna sushi! The husband and I were amazed and how realistic the tuna looked! Ok la maybe not mine, but the one Kin did as a sample looked damn real!

DSCF0055

DSCF0057

Apple pie done by misterchewy! We were giggling away because his apple pie looked kinda thick and fat, and Kin commented that it seemed as though someone had already taken a bite out of it. LOLOLOL.

DSCF0060

Does my salmon sushi look adorable? Actually I’m not very happy with it because I made the indentation on the salmon a little too deep and when I used a white pen to line it, the whole thing looks ruined. Haiiii. But still quite cute because it’s about the size of my fingertip. Haha.

DSCF0062

The husband showing off his burger! But still got some finishing touches to be made!

DSCF0065

The last sushi that I made was the ebi sushi. It was the only sushi that I had to use a brush to paint the colors on the prawn. Not easy ok! Before I started painting, Kin showed me more than 10 failed samples done by her students. Those really cannot make it one. And I actually laughed at one particular prawn which she said looks like a washing board. I stopped laughing immediately because I realized I have not started painting my own. *Stressed* Thankfully, I think it turned out pretty alright for a first-timer! πŸ˜€ From left to right, we have tuna sushi with prawn roe, salmon sushi, tamago sushi and ebi sushi. The ones in the background were done by Kin, which are a bit smaller than mine, and obviously much nicer too!

DSCF0069

Since the husband was still working on his burger set, I took some photos of Kin’s works on display.

We spent about 3 hours and after the workshop, I requested to have a photo taken with Laoshi Kin! We were full of respect and admiration for her! Kin was really patient and she constantly gave us feedback and tips while we were working on our food clay. Kin had also been featured in numerous paper publications and she was also asked to make miniature Laksa as a gift for our ex-President MR. S R Nathan!

_MG_8160

Out of the 4 types of sushi, I spent the most time on painting the ebi sushi because I had to make sure it doesn’t look too fake. I was actually very worried and kept wondering, what if I also ended up with a washing board lookalike prawn?! The salmon and tamago sushi seemed easy to make but they are also not that easy. Kin said, practice makes perfect!

_MG_8164

I thought misterchewy’s burger set looks quite impressive! Very surprising because both of us are not exactly the art and craft kinda people. Before the start of the workshop, Kin asked if we had any experience in miniature clay making or any other types of handicraft. We hesitated for quite some time before I said, “Erm… The last time I did real art and craft was in primary school?!” LOL! The husband found that the top bun of the burger was the hardest to make. He had to redo the thing at least 4 times because the shape was not perfect. Kin told him that there is a certain technique to moulding it. Again, practice makes perfect!

Kin updates her website on a regular basis and features her latest works on http://rainbowclayminiature.blogspot.sg/

Little Green Pot: Make & Fill a Terrarium With Love For Him/Her!

_MG_6871

This blog would not be what it is today, if not for meeting and subsequently having misterchewy in my life. Just a couple of months ago, a nice reader dropped me a message on FB. J said that he’s a passive reader who doesn’t usually write to any blogs he reads. He remarked that mine is more than just a food blog, which tells readers stories of misterchewy and myself. J was initially captivated by the nice food photos (which I think have lotsa room for improvement!) and then he found that the romantic and loving relationship that misterchewy and I share is truly inpiring to him. πŸ™‚ J is not the one and only reader who has shared his thoughts about my blog with me and I really appreciate all these heartfelt messages that I get from readers from time to time πŸ™‚

_MG_6873

You may or may not have noticed that I have placed some of the popular non-food related blog posts on the right side of my blog. I will tidy things up when I have the time to do so and update along the way. Actually, I have been wanting to do this for the longest time but I’m a #1 procrastinator. LOL. Anyway, I’m quite sure that most couples, whether married or not, face the same questions like we do. “Where to go?” and “What to do?”

_MG_6875

Hubby Chewy and I are always trying to find new activities to do together instead of the usual ‘eat, shop, watch movies, repeat’ routine. As promised in my Wanderlust birthday staycation post, I will be sharing more about the Terrarium workshop that misterchewy and I attended. At first, I wanted to sign ourselves up for a baking or cooking class but most classes were already full since it was a very last minute ‘research’ on my part. I didn’t know what gave me the idea but terrariums popped into my head suddenly and the next thing I knew, payment was settled that Friday night and our workshop was on Sunday afternoon πŸ™‚

_MG_6876

The idea of having a terrarium appeals to me because it’s like having a mini garden in a bottle. Isn’t it very cool? I googled “Terrarium Workshop Singapore” and the first result that showed up was Little Green Pot. They conduct workshops once to twice a month. Luck was definitely on our side because they had one on 29th July, which is the date we checked into Wanderlust Hotel! Better still, got vacancies! The workshop was conducted in a small classroom at Hougang. Materials had already been laid out for us. For those who are keen to know, the workshop cost us $24 each, inclusive of materials. Very reasonable price! πŸ™‚

_MG_6878

These are the essential ‘ingredients’ that you need in order to build a terrarium. There was this auntie who actually brought colored sand to class! Her terrarium ended up looking really pretty!

_MG_6879

Hahaha this might sound really cheesy because all of us were essentially making the same thing but I told misterchewy that we should filling the terrarium for each other! So he picked the glass bottle with a pink ribbon for me, and I chose a blue ribboned one for him πŸ˜›

_MG_6885

Hehehe yup this is for misterchewy! It’s more meaningful that way, don’t you think so? πŸ˜‰

_MG_6889

Sorry I’m not good with the names of plants but anyway, there were about 3 types for us to choose from and we had to pluck a small pit from the pot and transfer them to our own terrarium.

_MG_6891

_MG_6894

_MG_6896

Pouring in the colored pebbles. Almost there!

_MG_6898

Lastly, we got to choose a cute little animal to be placed inside our terrariums. Just nice, we spotted that the camels were the only ones that came in blue and pink! Hahaha.

_MG_6900

_MG_6903

Our instructor, KC, went round watering our plants for the entire class. He reminded everyone that terrariums are ‘low maintenance’ but keep in mind but that doesn’t equate to ‘no maintenance’. We only need to water them about once every six months! πŸ˜€

This is how the terrarium looks like when it condenses. It shows that the ecosystem is normal so there’s nothing to worry about! πŸ™‚

Hope everyone enjoyed reading our post and be inspired to fill a terrarium with love for your significant other too! πŸ˜‰ If you don’t feel like making one on your own, you can also choose to buy them off the shelves. Other than Little Green Pot, you can also get ready-made terrariums from The Plant Story, My Eco Tree and Hedge Garden. Note that I’m not sponsored in any way, just doing everyone a favor! πŸ˜› Have fun ya! πŸ˜€
