The Plot Hostels Singapore Staycation Review

Sponsored Staycation

_MG_9553

I thought this would never happen in a million years but thanks to The Plot Hostels, I can finally do this – stay in a hostel to my bucket list! Hurray! Prior to this hostel experience, the very idea of sharing a room with complete strangers is exceedingly intimidating and bothers me a lot. Even misterchewy was completely taken aback by my decision to review The Plot Hostels because he’s well aware of this unexplainable paranoia of mine. But I have to say that I was quite impressed by what I saw on The Plot’s website, so much so that I was convinced enough to give it a shot.

_MG_9551

Now, the question is, “Why The Plot Hostels”?

The best stories have a great plot. And at The Plot Hostels, you will encounter lots of intriguing and interesting stories from other travelers and backpackers. Then, once you’re finishing interacting and sharing stories and your best travel adventures with other backpackers and travelers, it’s time to plot your future travels. Plotting journeys is part of the fun for backpackers! Plot your next solo adventure or join forces with one of the other adventure seekers that you’ll meet at The Plot Hostels. It’s a place to forge new friendships, to share stories and delightful conversation and it’s the perfect place to plot your journey and plan your next adventure!

Conveniently located within walking distance of Chinatown, Tiong Bahru and Outram, along with the local heritage area, travellers staying at The Plot Hostels will discover a unique blend of Singaporean cultures.

_MG_9357

I didn’t see the need to wake up bright and early that Saturday (for the record, I woke up at 12.30pm) since the check-in could only be done from 3pm onwards. The husband and I took a cab from the East and reached slightly around 3.15pm. Guests had to produce either their identification cards or passports, of which a photocopy will be made upon checking in. We were each given a security access key which came in the form of a silicone rubber wristband.

_MG_9460

One of The Plot’s friendly staff showed us up to our room on the fourth level, which is also the highest level.

_MG_9475

This is how the access key looks like. Pretty cool right! And you don’t have to worry about misplacing it because you should be wearing it around your wrist everywhere you go, even in the shower since it’s waterproof. The wristbands come in two colors – blue if you are staying in a Mixed room and red for Ladies room.

_MG_9336

The Plot Hostels consists of 11 rooms, all of which are air-conditioned. The mixed rooms are available in 3 different configurations – 4-Pod, 6-Pod, and 8-Pod, which you can select during your booking process. Room rates are around SGD35 to SGD50 per person per night, depending on room type, length of stay and stay period. We were assigned a 6-Pod mixed room which comes with an ensuite bathroom and shower. You can easily identify your own pod based on the alphabet indicated at the side of the personal lockers attached to each pod.

_MG_9332

When we first stepped into our room, I knew for sure that pod B was occupied by another guest because the curtain had been drawn shut and told misterchewy, “Oh no! We have another male companion in our room!” He asked how could I be so sure that it’s a male and I went, “Why would any solo female traveller want to stay in a mixed room if there are ladies rooms available? Unless…”

_MG_9309

I don’t sit on my bed if I’m not showered and in clean clothes but I made this an exception since we were only going to stay for one night. Besides, sitting at the side of the bed wouldn’t hurt right? πŸ˜› I used to think that staying in a hostel is almost akin to staying under slum-like conditions but The Plot Hostels proved me very wrong. Our room was impeccably clean, reasonably spacious and brightly-lit. It really made me feel right at home.

_MG_9311

The husband’s pod was just above mine. I was actually quite worried that he would roll off the bed in his sleep given the fact that he’s quite a heavy sleeper at times.

_MG_9327

Every individual pod includes a personal locker which has ample space to store your bags, personal valuables, and definitely that precious tablet or laptop which you cannot live without.

_MG_9329

There is an international electrical outlet for charging your devices and also a light switch if you wish to do some packing or reading within the comfort of your own pod. Blankets are provided for and if you need towels, you can request for one at the reception.

_MG_9312

Washing up area at the other end of the room.

_MG_9322

_MG_9318

_MG_9319

There are conditioning shampoo and shower gel dispensers in the shower room. And for those who are concerned, there definitely is hot water.

_MG_9462

Guests are free to use the common bathroom and shower area located outside the rooms on each level. The Plot Hostels is also thoughtful enough to cater to travellers with physical disabilities.

_MG_9346

Taking a selfie in the room. Darn, should have backfaced the green-tinted windows πŸ˜›

_MG_9353

Taking the elevator down to fetch our guest of honour. Haha!

_MG_9355

We were pretty much entralled by the futuristic outlook of the elevator. No chance to take photos earlier as we were accompanied by The Plot’s staff. Paisey la πŸ˜›

_MG_9359

Communal TV lounge with movie screening

_MG_9361

Comfy seating area

_MG_9363

Complimentary use of iMac computers

_MG_9375

Mini library

_MG_9366

Hot & cold filtered drinking water dispenser

_MG_9364

Chargeable snacks and mini bar

_MG_9368

Guests are free to do light cooking in the kitchen. There is a refrigerator and a microwave, as well as cutleries and crockeries.

_MG_9370

There is also a Laundry Area with a coin operated washing machine, coin operated dryer machine and communal drying area.

_MG_9371

_MG_9378

Still very fascinated by the elevator.

_MG_9471

YP and I πŸ™‚

_MG_9454

Balcony area where you can get some fresh air, chill and exchange stories with fellow travellers.

_MG_9457

_MG_9429

We headed out for very late lunch around the area. It was almost 5pm and I had not eaten all day! Little misschewy must be very hungry but still had tremendous strength to kick me. LOL. Hopefully I will have time to do a separate review on The Orange Thimble πŸ™‚ There are plenty of cafes and eateries located near The Plot Hostels. Thumbs up for its strategic location!

_MG_9441

After late lunch, we had late high tea at Drips Bakery Cafe, a place which specializes in tarts. I chose the Lemon Meringue tart which had just the right amount of sweetness and its zesty lemony taste was very refreshing.

_MG_9451

We also shared the Chocolate tart (raspberry was from the lemon meringue) which was slightly bitter as it was made with dark chocoaltes. Reminded me of Awfully Chocolate’s dark chocolate truffles. Yummy!

_MG_9491

By the time we were done with our mini pigging out session, it was 7pm but this didn’t stop us from wanting to eat dinner. We agreed that the best way to work up an appetite was to take a 2-hour nap πŸ˜›

_MG_9492

The husband was teasing me, “Eh? You haven’t shower, so dirty leh. You dare to lie down on your bed ah?” -_-

_MG_9501

YP highly recommended Tian Tian Seafood, a mere one-minute walk from the hostel. Fish head steamboat!

_MG_9502

Ordered additional sliced pork, golden mushroom, fried yam and hotplate beancurd.

_MG_9509

_MG_9521

Decided to relax at the communal area after dinner. YP and I caught the last 20 minutes of Life of Pi while the husband updated himself with soccer news and MapleStory on the iMac. The three of us then trotted over to Cheers to get bottled water.

_MG_9525

After a nice hot shower! Pardon my eyebrowless face and dark circles >_<

_MG_9534

A group selfie before lights out πŸ™‚

_MG_9536

The guy at the reception sure wasn’t kidding when he emphasized that “simple breakfast” will be served.

_MG_9541

Plain white bread or wholemeal bread with peanut butter, margarine or strawberry jam. You can also help yourself to the toaster.

_MG_9546

I had cocoa krispies with milk. Headed back to our room to pack up and nua a bit more before checking out at 11am πŸ™‚

_MG_9387

It was a very delightful experience for us staying at The Plot Hostels for one night. The amenities were more than just basic, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the seasoned backpacker found himself being pampered during his stay. I strongly recommend The Plot Hostels not only to travellers seeking maximum comfort and value at a low cost, but also to locals who are keen on organizing staycations for large groups on a budget.

Village Hotel Katong Singapore Staycation Review

Sponsored Staycation

_MG_9148

It had been a good 3 months since the last time misterchewy and I went on a romantic staycation in Singapore. It’s always nice to spend quality time with your spouse over the weekend, experiencing a totally new yet comfortable and chic environment such as the newly launched Village Hotel Katong, which is the latest addition to Far East Hospitality’s growing portfolio of hotels and serviced residences.

IMG_9293

Located in the eastern region of Singapore, Village Hotel Katong is a non-smoking property housing a total of 229 hotel rooms and is integrated with the family-friendly shopping mall, Katong V. Being just a 15-minute drive to the Changi International Airport, Central Business District and Orchard Road, the hotel provides excellent connectivity to key business and leisure locations. It is also within a 5-minute walk to the Parkway Parade Shopping Mall and 10-minute walk to the East Coast Park. Superb for family staycations as well.

_MG_9131

My parents dropped us off at the ground floor of Katong V and we took an escalator up to the lobby of Village Hotel Katong. The husband and I waited in line for quite sometime and we both thought that the check-in process could be faster and more efficient.

_MG_9133

_MG_8959

This was our lovely home for one night, an expansive 35 square metre Club Room on the 6th floor of the hotel. Do note that the larger rooms are all situated on the lower floors. Our club room, in a soothing shade of blue, was not only cosy but very homely. I was already making notes for our future abode! We certainly don’t mind coming home to this every night πŸ™‚

_MG_8968

In line with the Village brand’s philosophy of drawing inspiration and vitality from its surrounding neighbourhood, Village Hotel Katong reflects the strong Peranakan heritage of the surrounding Katong and Joo Chiat district in Singapore.

_MG_9138

_MG_9021

The larger rooms are also designed with a comfortable couch sitting area where you can relax with a good book and a pot of hot tea.

_MG_9029

_MG_9074

_MG_9078

Adequate supply of complimentary coffee and tea.

_MG_9082

_MG_9084

_MG_9099

Clearly, misterchewy was very impressed with this. He exclaimed, “WAH! New one! For iPhone 5!” The iPod docking systems that we encountered during all our previous staycations were designed for the older iPhone models and not suitable for iPhone 5.

_MG_9230

A sliding glass door separates the bathroom from the room.

_MG_9232

Our room didn’t come with a bathtub. The husband phoned reception in order to satisfy my curiosity and they mentioned that rooms with bathtubs were not ready yet. We weren’t exactly affected anyway because of my pregnant state, it’s not advisable for me to take hot baths.

_MG_9228

All bathrooms are equipped with a powerful standing rain shower to revitalize and refresh tired guests after a long day of work or shopping.

_MG_9225

_MG_9227

_MG_9039

My OOTD for this staycation was from Maternity Exchange! Absolutely love this black number from my maternity sponsor as the cut is flattering and it accentuates my baby bump. Best of all, the material is light and stretchy (made of lycra fabric if I’m not wrong) which does not trap heat or cling to my skin. To jazz up my outfit, I paired it with my black and gold necklace from Diva πŸ™‚

_MG_9057

I would also like to thank Beauty Direct for the Star Lash falsies in Dark Brown #17 which is very natural-looking.

_MG_8998

_MG_8984

_MG_9093

I was kinda starving as we didn’t have lunch. It was almost 4pm when misterchewy came back with 328 Katong Laksa! He took only 20 minutes (including having to wait for the food). Plenty of eateries around the area! It’s too good to be true! Anyway, I have been avoiding cockles ever since I became pregnant. Somehow, laksa doesn’t taste as shiok without cockles but this was quite good. Very satisfying lunch for the both of us πŸ™‚

_MG_9128

Not only is Village Hotel Katong integrated with Katong V, NTUC FairPrice Finest is just directly below the hotel, on the ground floor. Talk about ultimate convenience. For those who have always wanted to check out Group Therapy Cafe, it’s there too!

_MG_9221

Staying in the Club room combines exceptional comfort with a host of exclusive privileges like access to the Peranakan Lounge for daily breakfast and evening cocktails from 6pm to 8pm, in a comfortable environment, both for both work and leisure that will make you feel right at home, Peranakan style.

_MG_9217

_MG_9201

_MG_9215

_MG_9211

We popped by the Peranakan Lounge for some light bites at 6pm and saw that finger food such as cold cuts, chicken satay, seafood quiche and pastries were available. The husband had two cans of beer while I opted for freshly squeezed orange juice.

_MG_9165

We were supposed to check out a newly opened restaurant for dinner at 8pm but we changed our minds since it was raining and also because of the fact that we were kinda full from the numerous sticks of delicious chicken satay. Earlier in the day, Judy the baker from Happy Avenue delivered her homemade kueh lapis and cupcakes to us. My intention was only to try a few slices of kueh lapis but misterchewy and I ended up finishing up the whole box! :O

IMG_9284

We felt so guilty that we woke up at 6am the next morning to… take photos of the gymmasium.

IMG_9285

Just pretending to be working out.

IMG_9287

IMG_9289

I was quite amused by the swimming pool. Does swimming around the circumference count as one lap? πŸ˜›

_MG_9108

Katong Kitchen, located on the 4th floor of the hotel, opens as early as 6am for breakfast. I’m glad we woke up really early for our best meal of the day!

Ritz Carlton Singapore Staycation Blog Review

_MG_8344

Happy 2nd wedding anniversary to us and happy birthday to misterchewy! Yes 9th September is another date on the calender that holds tremendous significance for the both of us πŸ™‚ We decided to celebrate one week in advance because I can’t get away from work this week. Today’s post will be a combination of a staycation review of The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore and how we celebrated this mega special occasion, The Chewys’ style! πŸ˜‰

_MG_8478

We checked in last Sunday, 1st September, at around 3pm after having a quick lunch at Marina Square. The check-in time is one hour later than most hotel’s standard check-in at 2pm. Time is money and money is time. When we stepped into The Ritz-Carlton, we were promptly whisked to the check-in counter and then asked if we wanted coffee, tea or juices.

_MG_8476

Before giving you a virtual tour of our hotel suite, here are some parts of The Ritz-Carlton that we explored. This is Chihuly Lounge, which is named after famed American Dale Chihuly. How does high tea sound?

_MG_8479

Greenhouse offers an attractive Sunday vintage champagne brunch from 12pm – 3.30pm, featuring an unlimited flow of MoΓ«t & Chandon, wines and selected cocktails accompanied by freshly shucked oysters, seafood, roasts, 50 French farmhouse cheeses and freshly baked soufflΓ©s.

_MG_8463

Swimming pool with plenty of sun tanning chairs.

_MG_8465

The gymnasium is located on the same floor as the swimming pool and is extremely well equipped.

_MG_8467

It is also the largest and most impressive hotel gym that I have come across so far.

_MG_8474

Business Centre

_MG_8473

_MG_8471

_MG_8259

Ok here comes the exciting part! I made reservations in mid July and prior to that, I chanced upon a Happy Birthday package on The Ritz-Carlton’s website (which I think is no longer available) and decided to take it up since we could upgrade to a Premier Suite upon availability at check-in. I’m not sure if this is common but we were elated that we were lucky enough to score a suite room on the 7th floor! πŸ˜€

_MG_8239

The Ritz-Carlton houses one of the largest guest rooms and accommodations of any hotel in Singapore, averaging 550 to 650 square feet, and The Ritz-Carlton Suite boasts a lofty 2347 square feet. Our luxurious suite spans approximately 646 square feet and features an unobstructed picturesque scene of Marina Bay.

_MG_8236

The separate bedroom also has an element of timeless elegance, which seem to be consistent with The Ritz-Carlton’s definition of the essence of luxury, evident from its contemporary furnishings and state-of-the-art technology.

_MG_8240

_MG_8241

Doors separating the bathroom and living room from the bedroom can be closed for enhanced privacy.

_MG_8245

The Ritz-Carlton is the first hotel in the world to be furnished with flushed wall-mounted 46-inch Hospitality LED TVs. There was one in our bedroom and another one in the living room.

_MG_8257

Even the bathroom is so spacious that guests can enjoy his-and-her sink vanities. Mirrors are anti-fog, so you can no longer use your finger to write “I love you” after coming out from a hot steamy shower. LOL. There is also a separate shower stall with rain shower feature. Wrap yourselves in His and Hers micro-fiber Ploh bathrobes after your shower!

_MG_8246

_MG_8293

_MG_8248

This is what I call the SEXIEST HOTEL BATHROOM in Singapore with the bathtub just beside The Ritz-Carlton’s signature octagonal window. Sorry this photo was taken in the afternoon when the sun was shining in, but I swear it looks sooo much better and also more romantic at night! The husband assured me that people staying at Mandarin Oriental and Pan Pacific won’t be able to see us because the windows are tinted on the outside. Anyway if you are scared, you can always lower the blinds. Ours was stuck and did not work. Oh wells.

_MG_8251

_MG_8283

_MG_8287

Asprey bath amenities

_MG_8290

Hair dryer in a bag. I used it after my shower and it gave me ridiculously soft and straight hair.

_MG_8254

Separate cubicle. Told you the bathroom is damn spacious!

_MG_8255

Walk-in closet. Are you thinking about playing hide-and-seek already?

_MG_8295

Back to the living room! There is an iPod docking station at the writing desk but what impressed me was the Bose audio system. Tuned in to 98.7fm and the sound quality was quite good!

_MG_8300

Mini bar stocks a range of beers, wine, water and juices.

_MG_8279

There were 6 lit-up drawers within the credenza cabinet in the living room and pulling each one of them out was like unveiling a mini surprise.

_MG_8277

_MG_8298

_MG_8296

_MG_8297

_MG_8299

_MG_8274

Our Happy Birthday package was inclusive of a small bottle of champagne.

_MG_8270

Welcome amenity consisted of cupcakes, strawberries and a very adorable Ritz-Carlton lion soft toy! Since our staycation cost us the husband more than $600, misterchewy and I decided to maximize the length of time spent in our suite and agreed on in-room dining. We were also entitled to $30 hotel credit which could be utilized for dining, shopping or spa at The Ritz Carlton, and used it for our in-room dining. Unfortunately, we poured through the menu for 15 minutes and carbonara was the only dish that we wanted to order.

_MG_8350

Glad that Marina Bay Sands was nearby and it was a good chance for misterchewy to try the truffle fries from Au Chocolat because I kept raving about it after a casual brunch session with my bridesmaids earlier this year. So, out went the mister while the missus lazed in the hotel room waiting for her husband to tabao food back from Au Chocolat πŸ˜›

_MG_8358

_MG_8361

_MG_8364

_MG_8382

Truffle fries from Au Chocolat are da bomb! Really the best of all the truffle fries that I have eaten. The husband agrees with me! Still tasted damn good even when they were cold (I ate some leftovers the next morning).

_MG_8385

Spicy Chicken Wings (Au Chocolat) had a tang of spiciness but was quite salty.

_MG_8378

Duck Confit (Au Chocolat) was quite dry and hard, probably because we left it there for quite some time. Busy taking photos πŸ˜›

_MG_8389

The Ritz-Carlton’s Carbonara dish was quite well-executed, thick and creamy but I think the egg could be done better.

_MG_8393

_MG_8395

Earlier in the day, I googled and found out that the sun would be setting at around 7pm, so we planned everything well and made sure that our food was served before that. That way, we could watch the skies change gradually as we were enjoying our food.

_MG_8406

We find that in-room hotel dining is an ideal way to spend a intimate and romantic night with your loved ones. You have all the privacy in the world, can be yourself and relax without having to worry about being judged by others. The bonus is having lovely music playing in the background and a spectacular night view of the city. It was just the two of us and we dimmed the lights for a more romantic feel. πŸ™‚

_MG_8412

Feather beds and Sealy mattresses are used in all rooms, Club rooms and Suites. The bed was comfy but quite high. Think I have short legs because I had to tiptoe and hurl myself onto the bed. LOL.

_MG_8421

_MG_8461

This was the beautiful night view of MBS that we fell asleep to πŸ™‚

_MG_8443

And of course, we soaked ourselves in the sexy hotel bathtub after dinner and played with bubbles πŸ˜› It was very therapeutic!

Wanderlust Hotel Singapore Staycation Blog Review

Staycation @ Wanderlust Hotel

Happy birthday to me! Over the weekend, my dear misterchewy planned a birthday surprise and he checked us into Wanderlust Hotel which was conceptualized by Singaporean boutique hotelier Loh Lik Peng. I really have to admit that after our staycations at Porcelain Hotel and Oasia Hotel, we are indeed hooked on to this whole staycation idea in Singapore! Additionally, it’s extremely fun to explore certain parts of Singapore that you are not familiar with. We cabbed around most of the time πŸ™‚

_MG_6782

Since the standard check-in time was at 2pm, we had a simple and light lunch at Plaza Singapura’s Itacho.

_MG_6779

Itacho

_MG_6793

_MG_6797

_MG_6865

Wanderlust Hotel is located in Little India, more specifically along Dickson Road and it’s quite near Sim Lim Square. It is a boutique hotel which draws people like misterchewy and myself, who want a totally new and refreshing experience from their hotel stay. There are four thematic levels of 29 rooms. We stayed in a Whimsical room on level 4 and we strongly recommend this for a fantasy-filled experience! πŸ™‚ There are five varying themes, β€˜Bling’ , β€˜ASCII’, β€˜Space’, β€˜Tree’ and β€˜Typewriter’.

_MG_6799

Very cool-looking lobby!

_MG_6801

Heart Chair

Took a couple of shots while waiting for the front desk personnel to be done with our paperwork.

_MG_6982

Ohh, Cocoette is just beside the lift!

_MG_6861

*GASP* It seemed like misterchewy had planned a bigger surprise for his wifey πŸ˜›

_MG_6830

Later on (after much grilling), I found out that the hotel had earlier promised a birthday cake but when misterchewy emailed to confirm two days before we checked in, they could only provide a birthday cookie instead. Lol. The room decorations cost him quite a bit.

_MG_6826

_MG_6832

Philips iPhone/iPod docking station and Nespresso Essenza coffee making machine in our room. Getting more common these days?

_MG_6849

Yuppp! Our room is a two-storey room! There’s a staircase like OMGEE. As mentioned earlier, we stayed in a Whimsical room on level 4. These rooms are about 20-32sqm. Our room is a Space themed one! It’s super nice and super romantic~~~! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

_MG_6852

_MG_6855

_MG_6845

The stairs are a little narrow though! Plus the room is dark at night so you really gotta watch your step. Parents with young tots have to keep a close watch ya? πŸ™‚

_MG_7028

_MG_6816

I can’t stop emphasizing how r-o-m-a-n-t-i-c the Space themed room is! There are even ‘twinkling stars’ in our room! πŸ˜€

_MG_7003

The Sealy Posturepedic queen sized bed is up on the second floor.

_MG_6834

_MG_6841

_MG_7036

_MG_7004

There’s a red hot rocket in our room!

_MG_7008

_MG_7009

We spent quite a bit of time camwhoring in our room before moving off to our next destination which is at Hougang! We took a cab down and reached in about 15 minutes.

_MG_6908

I thought I should be nice and give misterchewy a little break from too much planning so I signed both of us up for a Terrarium Workshop the day before our staycation. I know it’s very last minute arrangement but it was a perfect decision! I reckon it’s a very unique couple bonding and dating activity, so I will definitely be sharing more on this in a separate blog post πŸ™‚

_MG_6914

Since we had a couple of hours to kill before dinner, we decided to loiter around the area so that we didn’t have to travel too much. Dinner would be at Chinatown πŸ™‚

_MG_6922

And yeah, what other dating activities are there besides eating, shopping and watching movies?! We headed to K Ki and shared two slices of cakes! πŸ˜€ It was misterchewy’s first visit and he loved the souffle cheescake πŸ™‚ The chocolate cake was good too!

_MG_6926

I’m back here again after two years πŸ˜€ The owner, Delphine, told us that her baby girl is 15 months old now!

_MG_6939

Did more walking up and down Ann Siang Hill to burn off the extra calories. Hahaha!

_MG_6978

Lovely dinner at Senso Ristorante & Bar along Club Street. There will be a separate post for this too!

_MG_6980

_MG_6985

Before returning to our room, we went to level 2 to check out the jacuzzi. Look look see see only because we didn’t bring swimwear.

_MG_6996

A quick look at the standard bath amenities before we took our bubble bath.

_MG_7138

Rain shower. The bath amenities provided are from Kiehl’s. The hubby liked the fragrance from the Kiehl’s shampoo and shower gel so maybe it’s time for me to pamper him huh? Haha. And nope, we are not showing pics of us enjoying our bubble bath this time πŸ˜›

_MG_6990

Wheeeeeee~ Making sure that our terrariums are doing ok before we go to bed.

_MG_7144

The view of the room at night and in the morning is actually similar since the curtains are drawn shut. So, we fell asleep to a night sky full of stars and woke up seeing stars. A very very lovely experience I would say! :))

_MG_7163

The next morning, we went down to Cocotte on level 1 for breakfast. Room rates are inclusive of semi-buffet breakfast over here.

Oasia Hotel Singapore Staycation Blog Review

Sponsored Staycation

The Chewys' Staycation @ Oasia Hotel-001

Hot on the heels of our blog post on The Chewys’ very first Singapore staycation, we have lined up another mega blog post filled with many photos taken during the 1st Year Anniversary Party and staycation at Oasia Hotel! The party was very fun and lively; with lots of cocktails and chocolates to go around. As for the staycation, we are summing up our experience in three words: awesome, impressive and exclusive! πŸ˜€

_MG_3665

Oasia Hotel is situated in the heart of the charming Novena enclave, just a stone’s throw away from shopping malls, Novena Square Velocity and Square 2, as well as the Novena MRT Station. Talk about extreme convenience and accessibility! Since it was a little early for us to check-in, we settled our lunch at Square 2’s Sakae Sushi before crossing the link bridge over to Oasia. At about 2pm, we proceeded straight to Level 22 because that’s where the check-in/check-out is done for Oasia Club rooms or suites guests.

_MG_3049-001

The club room that we stayed in for the night is on the 24th floor, highest being the 25th. The room features understated modern decor, subtle hues of nature-inspired elements and ambient lighting that will soothe one’s senses.

_MG_3074-001

All Oasia Club Room guests will also enjoy very exclusive privileged access to The Living Room and its pool facilities on the 22nd floor, as well as complimentary breakfast, cocktail and all-day coffee, tea, juices, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks at The Living Room, complimentary one piece of suit pressing per stay (non accumulative) and daily newspapers.

_MG_3138

_MG_3084-001

_MG_3051-001

Fresh fruits in our room. How nice! πŸ™‚

_MG_3054-001

There’s even stationery! It’s all the little things and personal touches like these that are both welcoming and intuitive, which left us impressed.

_MG_3151

We love listening to music and we were grinning from ear to ear upon seeing the iPod/iPhone docking machine! πŸ˜€

_MG_3642-001

Most hotel rooms only have like two or three pin power point sockets so it was pleasant to have this USB power socket. One USB cable does the trick of charging all your electronic devices like your camera, mobile phone and MP3 player. At least it works for me! Imagine the hassle of having to bring ten different chargers for all your devices. πŸ˜›

_MG_3059

All Oasia Club rooms are equipped with unlimited broadband access. Here’s misterchewy calling the reception to find out what’s the correct ‘last name’ to key in together with our room number, in order to log onto the WIFI network.

_MG_3321

_MG_3116

46 inch LED television!

_MG_3114

Woots! Complimentary mini bar is rather well-stocked. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

_MG_3113

If you want a hot drink, there’s also Nespresso coffee-making facilities! πŸ˜€

_MG_3352-001

Not a fan of coffee? There’s Naturalis tea!

_MG_3153-001

We went, “Whoaaaaa!” In this wardrobe, there are bath robes, bedroom slippers, iron with ironing board, and even a large umbrella! Very thoughtful indeed!

_MG_3094-001

And here comes the part many would be concerned about, other than the bed. Bath tub on the left, rain shower on the right!

_MG_3157-001

_MG_3605-001

I first had the chance to use these bath amenities from Thann when I stayed in one of the hotels in Taiwan. Madly in love with the aromatic wood scent!

_MG_3361

_MG_3090-001

_MG_3096-001

Everything that you need, it’s in there! Toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, shaver, showering cap, cotton buds, loofah, etc!

_MG_3110

_MG_3078

Heh heh heh. You can derive a little bit of fun and excitement from watching your partner shower! πŸ˜› The blinds can be operated with a simple click in the bathroom.

_MG_3065-002

Same goes for the blinds and shades in the room! We were greeted by a very breathtaking view of the city! Basically, the husband and I just sat on the ledge and admired the sight for a good 10 minutes πŸ™‚ Haha but of course, we had to pull down the blinds after a few minutes because it was getting kinda hot! πŸ˜›

_MG_3070

_MG_3322-horz

_MG_3339-horz

_MG_3306

As we had a couple of hours to kill before the event, Hubby Chewy and I went for a little tour around the hotel! Went to level 8 first.

_MG_3297-001

The swimming pool looks very nice right! I like the ‘feel’!

_MG_3299-001

There’s a jacuzzi too!

_MG_3300-001

_MG_3312

The gymnasium is located on level 8 too. Not very big but it has a handful of cardio machine like the treadmill and stationary bike. Those who are on an endurance or strength training regime can make use of the free weights and the all-in-one machine!

_MG_3289-001

And now, level 22! Over here, Oasia Club room guests get to enjoy very exclusive benefits and be pampered like kings and queens!

_MG_3201

Tadah! This is The Living Room! Very nice place to chill out!

_MG_3211

_MG_3236-001

Here’s a sneak peek of the setup for the event at night! πŸ˜‰

_MG_3269-001

We pushed past the glass door and stood in awe in front of this very beautiful infinity pool which boasts a magnificent view of the city! Oh man, I wish I could jump right in! Anyway, this is only open to club room guests!

_MG_3258

_MG_3281

This jacuzzi looks way bigger than the one we saw at level 8!

_MG_3284

How relaxing it is to just lie here and enjoy a glass of orange juice as you get your dose of Vitamin D! Just remember to apply sunblock! πŸ˜›

_MG_3287-001

_MG_3366-001

Hey hey hey! That’s not all to it. Light bites by the pool are available for club guests between 6-8pm at the Club Lounge. If you are like me who gets hungry after a swim, you should rejoice to this! πŸ˜›

_MG_3378-001

_MG_3374-001

_MG_3376-001

_MG_3375-001

_MG_3372-001

_MG_3384-001

Since the event was scheduled to start at 7pm and we didn’t have time for dinner, we ate a bit from the spread.

_MG_3391

_MG_3393-001

We are now ready to party! I love how these glasses are being made use of here. Brilliant!

_MG_3394

Some of the early birds that night πŸ˜›

_MG_3402-001

_MG_3416-001

Very addictive Monbana chocolates from France! I loveeee dark chocolates πŸ˜€

_MG_3411-001

Pretty Monbana girls who flew over to Singapore as a team!

_MG_3408

_MG_3423

I met winner of Project Superstar Season 2, Daren Tan Sze Wei!

_MG_3442-001

Turns out that he’s the Sales and Marketing Director of Naturalis! Their products include teas, jams, spreads, honeys and sauces.

_MG_3456-001

The bartender was preparing the welcome drink for everyone, which made use of products from Naturalis.

_MG_3463-001

_MG_3481-001

Summer’s Bouquet is a lovely concoction of vodka, elderflower syrup, Singapore Sling tea, lemon and ice cubes!

_MG_3477-001

I’m sure everybody present that night enjoyed the exclusive Chocholatier Masterclass conducted by Mr Geoffroy Maubon, who’s the first barista of Monbana!

_MG_3486-001

_MG_3496-001

I can’t recall the name of this drink but I loveeee its color very much! My favorite color πŸ˜›

_MG_3499-001

Next up was the highlight for the night, the unveiling of Oasia’s signature cocktail drink! It has also been very aptly named, “L22“.

_MG_3507

_MG_3514-001

_MG_3524-001

Since we were there to celebrate Oasia’s 1st year anniversary, we couldn’t go without a massive birthday cake topped with macarons that brought about surprised gasps from the awe-stricken audience!

_MG_3525-001

We called it a night after singing the birthday song and grabbing a piece of macaron! What a night! πŸ˜€

_MG_3528

Hahaha I kinda sabo-ed misterchewy to be interviewed instead of me doing the job because I’m camera shy! Oops! πŸ˜›

_MG_3577

Back in our room. LOL! I told misterchewy I’m gonna do a test shot and he did this pose. Super cheeky la!

_MG_3579

_MG_3583

Oh yes, after the event ended, I was feeling kinda hungry and we hopped over to Novena Square. It’s that convenient! Had a craving for sashimi, as usual, and we grabbed some from Cold Storage. Half price somemore. Hahaha!

IMG_1033

Feeling very refreshed after a long hot shower! πŸ˜€

IMG_1039

Face masking time for us! I swear we friggin look like Alien Workshop! LOLOLOL.

IMG_1043

The bed was way too comfy and we decided to just lie there watching Titantic on our iPad! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

_MG_3588-001

I can’t believe I got hungry again towards the end of the movie! Hubby Chewy then suggested that we order something from the supper menu that’s available from 11pm to 5am by calling room service! He had the fries while I was contented with my mushroom soup with truffle oil.

_MG_3597

IMG_1046

Time for bed! A couple who brushes their teeth together, stays together. Hahaha! πŸ˜›

_MG_3630-001

We had a very good sleep and woke up to the rhythmic pitter patter of raindrops against the window pane early next morning. πŸ™‚

_MG_3634-001

Nothing beats lazing in bed with your loved one while listening to music from the iPod docking machine! It was fabulous! We played songs from Rita Ora, Katy Perry, The Wanted, Jayesslee, Jay Chou and many more. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

_MG_3650-001

The husband and I have a thing for having breakfast in the hotel. Good thing we remembered to tick the items that we wanted and hung our order on the door knob before we slept the night before.

_MG_3648-001

I don’t have much of an appetite in the morning and settled for the mini pancakes and some cornflakes while misterchewy had a hearty American breakfast with bacon and poached eggs!

_MG_3660

Woots! Breakfast is served! No words can explain how blissful we felt πŸ˜€

_MG_3627

That’s all folks! Have a fantabulous weekend and a lovely holiday on Chewsday! πŸ˜›

Porcelain Hotel Singapore Staycation Blog Review

The Chewys' First Staycation @ The Porcelain Hotel

Whoohoo! I’m finally blogging about the AWESOME STAYCATION that misterchewy and I had over the long Easter holiday! So what is a ‘Staycation’? Credits to Google: A vacation spent in one’s home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions. It was definitely a first for us, and we are not counting our previous stay at Grand Copthorne Waterfront as a staycation because we merely checked in for the night right after our ROM and checked out the very next morning. I somehow realized that there is this ‘staycation trend’ lately, and have always thought that it’s ridiculous to spend money staying in a hotel when you have your own comfortable bed to sleep in. One fine day, I came across The Porcelain Hotel which is a boutique hotel and decided to test out the experience there! Yours truly booked the Queen Executive room for a night and it was also meant to be a surprise for the hubby. I was so excited that I started planning our activities two weeks before! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

_MG_2448

Hehehe our OOTD was matching leopard prints top and jeans! I don’t really like to wear jeans but this time I made an exception. The name necklace was a gift from the hubby during Valentine’s Day! πŸ˜€

_MG_2481

We woke up really early for this. Brunch at Alkaff Mansion! The place is gorgeous! More photos later πŸ˜›

_MG_2439

Our new iPad! Haha the funny thing is, misterchewy had been pestering me endlessly about it. I didn’t see the point in getting one but gave in anyway. Guess what? He paid for it but it’s mine now because Hubby Chewy said that my BB’s keypad is not functioning properly. πŸ˜€ *Soooo touched* And I love what’s engraved on it! πŸ˜‰

_MG_2444

A glass of freshly squeezed orange juice to kickstart the beautiful Saturday morning! πŸ™‚

_MG_2457

Hubby Chewy knew that he wanted the Alkaff Breakfast Set ($14.80) the moment he had his hands on the menu. He’s decisive like that sometimes! πŸ˜›

_MG_2460

_MG_2461

_MG_2473

Hungry boy all ready to tuck in! ^_^

_MG_2477

I can’t remember when was the last time I had pancakes!

_MG_2462

It was an instant pancakes-craving-finally-satisfied moment when I ate the first half of my Banana Hot Cakes ($12.80). Thick, fluffy pancakes drizzled in blueberry sauce with sweet banana slices sandwiched in between, I knew that I did not wake up early that morning in vain. However, my appetite seemed to have shrunk recently and I was struggling to finish the pancakes.

_MG_2488

I had planned another outfit but a couple of days before the staycation, I saw this top on display and stood gaping at it. LOL! I grabbed misterchewy’s arms and went, “OMG! Can totally match your t-shirt!”

_MG_2479

This is really beautiful! I bet it would be nice to sit here and read a book while enjoying the cool breeze.

_MG_2484

The fountain attracted many little kids who happily splashed water with their hands!

_MG_2490

_MG_2494

_MG_2500

This huge rocking chair is way too cute! If only we could have this in our home! πŸ˜›

_MG_2534

Apparently, we couldn’t find anyone to help us take photos and decided to put our camera on self-timer mode.

_MG_2536

_MG_2537

It started to drizzle right after this shot! Talk about perfect timing.. πŸ˜‰

_MG_2543

_MG_2548

_MG_2540

_MG_2551

We went a little downslope and found ourselves at Telok Blangah Hill Park!

_MG_2501ed-horz

A final self-shot before making our way to the next destination – The Porcelain Hotel at Chinatown! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Facade with painting

Whoa. Look at this. Stunning isn’t it? I love most of the photos posted on the hotel’s website and facebook page, which led me to the decision in booking a night’s stay here! πŸ™‚

_MG_2556

Check in time is anything after 2pm. We arrived at 12plus and decided to try our luck! And yes, our room was ready! πŸ˜€

_MG_2560

_MG_2563

Our Queen Executive room was located on the fifth floor which also happens to be the highest floor. The corridor was really dark and kinda creepy. :S

_MG_2565

The reviewers sure weren’t kidding when they commented that the rooms are insanely small. Can you believe that this is an Executive room? This was what greeted us when we opened the door. Like, so in-your-face. Not for the claustrophobic puh-leeze. I was really upset and misterchewy phoned the reception. It turns out that the pictures I saw on their facebook page are taken at the new wing, which is not available yet. Plus there’s no bath tub! *Cheat my feelings* Hubby Chewy checked that we could upgrade to either a room with jacuzzi or the theme suite at an additional $50++ or $80++ per night respectively.

_MG_2793

As I was still reeling from shock, Hubby Chewy said, “Ok la let’s go for the best. Theme Suite ok? I treat you to the upgrade.” πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

IMG_0989

The first thing that we saw upon entering was not a bed, but a couch.

IMG_0988

Although it’s not written all over my face, I was really stunned to see a staircase in our room! Haha!

IMG_0986

IMG_0985

Woots! That’s our bed! πŸ˜€

_MG_2577

Our Theme Suite is about 43 square meters. If I didn’t remember wrongly, the Queen Exec is about 13 to 14 square meters. Tremendous difference yo!

_MG_2711

There’s free WIFI! Hmm I think this would benefit tourists more.

_MG_2578

Theme Suite

THIS. Yes this made my jaw drop and I actually squealed out loud in excitement. LOL.

_MG_2566

The bath tub is situated behind the bed, partitioned by the mirror and basins. So it’s like u can soak yourselves in the tub while enjoying the air-con yo! Machiam hot spring during winter! πŸ˜€

_MG_2789

Haha aiya misterchewy also excited lor. πŸ˜›

_MG_2567

_MG_2737

_MG_2579

IMG_0998

_MG_2590

_MG_2687

Time to check out the fridge! Heh πŸ˜› Well, there’s nothing except for two bottles of water. Good thing they chilled it for us!

_MG_2691

Coffee, tea or me? Lol.

_MG_2692

_MG_2708

_MG_2739

These hotel bedroom slippers are a must for me!

_MG_2735

_MG_2753

_MG_2693

Another must-have in the hotel – hair dryer!

IMG_0979

IMG_0982

_MG_2705

_MG_2595

Like I said earlier, I had our activities all planned out! Decided to go to My Waterway @ Punggol (also known as Punngol Waterway) because it was along the NEL. Seemed like it rained before we arrived!

_MG_2599

Haha seriously, we were laughing at this staircase. No idea where or what does it exactly lead to..

_MG_2601

_MG_2602

_MG_2612

_MG_2619

_MG_2623

“Ahhh! My bus come already!” LOL just for fun.

_MG_2624

_MG_2625

_MG_2628

LOL misterchewy told me to run towards him for this shot! Can you see how happy I am running towards my love? πŸ˜›

_MG_2655

This pose was not exactly a deliberate attempt on my part. I was feeling tired and wanted to sit down.. and hence this! πŸ˜‰ Hehehe misterchewy was teaching me some ‘leading lines’ photography composition and he took this photo to show me an example. Ok la I think got a bit πŸ˜›

_MG_2656

_MG_2657

*Cues “Wa meng ti! Wa meng ti!” song* HAHAHA! I should photoshop some dark clouds and a storm but I don’t know how! πŸ˜›

_MG_2658

I think we are starting to look more and more alike. >;_<; LOL!

_MG_2662

It was our first time here and we were kinda surprised that there weren’t many people even though it was a weekend. Everyone’s busy shopping, perhaps? We saw a Malay couple having their wedding shots taken there and a couple of joggers. Plus a few lone rangers. That’s about it I think.

_MG_2664

_MG_2665

I can’t believe I actually shouted, “Look! Got coconut tree!” Damn fail. But it does look like one, no? πŸ˜›

_MG_2667

_MG_2677

This was where we deviated from the original plan! We had wanted to go to Chomp Chomp for early dinner like at around 4plus but the place opens only at 6pm! Hungry us found ourselves at Ramen Champion at Iluma πŸ˜€

_MG_2680

_MG_2681

_MG_2686

Went back to the hotel after dinner. We found another ‘secret’ entrance to the hotel! Nobody mans the counter over here. Haha! It’s me again, holding up the new room card this time πŸ˜›

_MG_2758

The weather was really quite humid and the first thing we did was to take a nice long shower! We used the hotel’s shampoo and bath gel. Bought the facial wash and hair conditioner at Bugis after dinner! Ok the thing that I like is that there is a wide enough ledge where I can place all our toiletries on!

_MG_2730

We had been eagerly looking forward to this! A week before, I pulled misterchewy along to choose the scents he like or didn’t like because he’s quite fussy. We went to Marks & Spencer but nothing appealed us. Found this Bodycology Vanilla Cupcake Shower Gel & Foaming Bath in a small shop and the moment we took a whiff, we knew this was the one! Very very candy-sweeeeet-smelling! Vanilla cupcake mah! πŸ˜› We poured the entire bottle under running water! The water was only slightly hotter than lukewarm. But we enjoyed it a great deal nonetheless! πŸ˜€

_MG_2750

Everyone should indulge in some bubble bath fun with your partner! πŸ˜› Our tub was able to fit two, even though misterchewy’s legs are quite long and he had to bend his knees a bit. Haha. We talked, laughed, splashed water at each other and sipped beer till our fingers turned into prunes! πŸ˜€

_MG_2786

Ok this photo should come last but nevermind. Just wanted to let everyone know that I really liked how the sunlight shone into our room through the roof! No need for alarm clock! Hahaha.

_MG_2765

Hope everyone enjoyed reading about The Chewys’ first staycation! Definitely not going to be our last! Soooo fun! Lalalalala~ We are looking forward to our next staycation! πŸ˜‰
