Park Hotel Clarke Quay Staycation Review

Sponsored Staycation

_MG_3891

It was more than half a year ago when misterchewy and I last went for a staycation in Singapore. Very long ago right! I still remember I popped 18 days later. Hehe. Our recent staycation at Park Hotel Clarke Quay was our very first one as a family of three. Really glad that we brought Little misschewy along because our wedding anniversary and misterchewy’s birthday was a few days later, so we wanted to celebrate the occasion together. I was thrilled about staying at Park Hotel Clarke Quay because I love its classic architecture which is inspired by Singapore’s colonial past. Besides that, I like that the hotel is strategically located in the heart of the city and the nightlife at Clarke Quay is very vibrant. Perfect for party goers and foreigners who want to experience the nightlife in Singapore.

_MG_3794

There are 336 well-appointed rooms and suites at Park Hotel Clarke Quay which all showcase modern baroque furnishings, elevated ceilings, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows that offer guests sweeping views of the Singapore River and the city skyline. Our Club room located on the 9th floor wasn’t too big but there was space for our small luggage, baby playpen and stroller, with room to walk around comfortably.

Do you know that children under 12 years old stay for FREE at all Park Hotel Group’s establishments? Kids meals are also complimentary!

_MG_3861

In-room amenities tailored for little ones are also available at no additional charge. A bottle sterilizer in the room makes things much more convenient for us.

Very impressed with the wide selection of snacks!

_MG_3876

As a breastfeeding mother, the first thing I did when I opened the mini fridge was to check if it’s cold enough to store my expressed milk and not what’s inside the fridge. Felt that the fridge wasn’t cold enough and there wasn’t a freezer compartment to freeze the cooling panels of my cooler bag πŸ™

_MG_3850

It was Chanelle’s nap time so we let her have the queen-sized bed.

_MG_3870

Little girl woke up about an hour later and we simply had to show her the view from our room.

_MG_3916

Before dinner, we pushed Little misschewy around in her Maclaren Denim Quest Stroller. For an extra cushy ride, I got her a Skip Hop Memory Foam Stroller Liner from Agape Babies. They are currently having a diaper bag sale and also 15% off playmats!

_MG_3914

I really love the stunning pool that overlooks the panaromic city skyline. With state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment and superior standards in service, the hotel is an ideal venue to host wedding solemnizations, events and conferences. In fact, there was a wedding ceremony that took place that day!

Little misschewy was probably scared when we left her to sleep in the playpen given that the environment was an unfamiliar one.

_MG_4025

When she was finally drunk (on milk, not wine!), we transferred her back to the playpen. Hehehe.

_MG_4041

Our little bubba is clearly a morning person! πŸ˜€

_MG_4043

_MG_4050

Thanks to Chanelle, we never really had to set our alarm on weekends because she would be the one waking us up by 9am. Lol. We were in time for breakfast at Brizo! It was Chanelle’s very first time on the high chair, which was too big for her. Anyway, we didn’t have much appetite so we only grabbed a few bites. The egg station is not to be missed!

Third Wedding Anniversary and Misterchewy’s Birthday!

Family Photo

Happy Chewsday! It’s misterchewy’s birthday today and we will also be celebrating our third year wedding anniversary! With a baby in our lives, priorities have changed. I admit that most of the time, I put Chanelle before my husband. I guess it’s a mothers’ thing? I also don’t approve of couples leaving their kids to their parents or in-laws while they enjoy their own couple time. I mean, once in a while it’s ok I suppose but I still want to do things together as a family. If not, what’s the point of setting up a family and having kids right? Haha. Perhaps it’s only the beginning for us, so it’s easy for me to say, but we shall see! For now, I’m just thankful that it is fate that brought the three of us together πŸ™‚ Lastly, happy birthday hubby! :333

Chikuwa Tei: Best Chirashi in Singapore

_MG_3304

Happy birthday to me and cheers to our 4th year dating anniversary! πŸ™‚ I think too many things happened within these four years, so much so that I thought we were together for five years already. LOL.

Here’s a quick recap:

– We got together on 26 July 2010.
– Successfully balloted for our BTO after dating for 3 months in October 2010.
Got engaged on 26 June 2011.
Solemnized our marriage on 9 September 2011 on his birthday.
Held our customary wedding on 3 March 2013.
Little misschewy came into our lives on 18 March 2014.

IMG_3289

It’s really nice to reminisce about the past and to know that we have come a relatively long way. It’s the second time that misterchewy wasn’t able to celebrate my birthday on the actual day itself because this time, he’s in the States for a two-week work stint. The first time was when we just got together in 2010 and he had to help out at his hall’s freshman orientation camp in NTU.

IMG_3286

We celebrated both occasions before he left for his trip and we finally decided to go for my favourite cuisine of all time! I think I can eat Japanese food everyday without getting sick of it. Haha who’s with me? πŸ˜› Actually, misterchewy wanted to bring me for high tea at Ritz Carlton but the place was fully booked as it was a pretty last minute decision. With a baby in the house, most of our decisions are made out of spontaneity. High tea at Fullerton also no space. And then we wanted to try Mikuni at Fairmont Hotel, also fully booked.

IMG_3285

In the end, we were left with Chikuwa Tei at Mohamed Sultan Road which was started by Chef Peter Ho, who was also the former chef of Wasabi Tei. I wasn’t too thrilled about the ambience but all I wanted was to relax and have a good meal. We reached when it just opened for dinner so it was pretty empty but there was a queue forming outside when we left the place. Yes, you are strongly advised to make reservations.

_MG_3300

I never step out of a Japanese restaurant without ordering Sashimi Moriawase ($38)! I just don’t understand people who do not eat raw food (like my mum)! They have no idea what they are missing out. Just like Wasabi Tei, Chikuwa Tei is also very well known for its thickly sliced sashimi! It’s a party in my mouth YO!

_MG_3298

We were highly recommended to try this particular Chirashi Special Set ($68) which is only available every Sunday and Tuesday. The sashimi slices are the freshest of the lot and are not kept frozen. Every mouthful was so delightful and our favourite was the otoro. We were given three thick slices of otoro which were very high in fat content and brought the term “melt in the mouth” to a whole new level.

_MG_3308

Our Chirashi set also came with Chawanmushi, a bowl of miso soup and two slices of watermelon. The Chawanmushi, albeit a little watery, was smooth and chock full of ingredients such as mushroom and prawns.

_MG_3313

After the sashimi moriawase and chirashi, we wanted to order uni to share but they ran out of uni by then. The hubs loves scallops so we went for the highly recommended Nama Hotate ($30). It was a refreshing way to eat scallop with a drizzle of lemon juice and a dash of chili dip.

_MG_3317

Jowl Buta Yaki ($12) tasted pretty decent, especially with some beer! I think we will order more yakitori on our next visit.

_MG_3331

Chikuwa Tei’s menu is pretty extensive and I wanted to try the Fugu Mirin ($15). Tasted a little bit like bak kwa and it was exceptionally good with some mayonnaise.

IMG_3348

We spent about $270 in total, inclusive of 4 bottles of Sapporo beer. My parents and brother had dinner at Liang Court with Little misschewy in tow so that misterchewy and I could enjoy our dinner together. A big thanks to them!

My Very First Mother’s Day

Baby Chanelle

Happy Mother’s Day to me and all mummies out there! It felt very heartwarming to receive numerous texts from friends yesterday πŸ™‚ The husband and I travelled back to my parents’ place together with Chanelle to stay over for the weekend. Thanks to my mum who offered to take care of Chanelle! We managed to take a breather and unwind ourselves through good food and retail therapy! πŸ˜€ Being a mother is really not easy. It drives me crazy and wears me out, but of course, a big toothless grin from my baby really brightens up my day! Chanelle is almost 2 months old now and she’s really smiling a lot more than before πŸ™‚ Because our little one is still so young and requires too much of our attention, we decided to go for mother’s day dinner without her around πŸ˜› At least we can eat in peace and not have to rush through our meal and feel so stressed! Felt bad but we will definitely include Chanelle next year πŸ™‚

_MG_1918

Our dinner venue was decided out of spontaneity. The husband shortlisted a couple of places but I wasn’t too keen. The night before just when we were about to go to bed, he said, “Let’s go to Keppel Bay!” Asked if he was thinking what I’m thinking. YES! We were both thinking about Takumi Tokyo. Hehe. We had our first year wedding anniversary dinner there in 2012. πŸ™‚ The menu hasn’t changed and this time, we ordered the Salmon Belly Sashimi ($25). Not as fatty as I would have liked it to be.

_MG_1923

Looking back on my previous blog post, the dishes that we ordered this time were the ones that left us a positive and lasting impression back then. Assorted Sushi ($35) comprises of 8 sushi pieces and 1 roll. Loved the uni!

_MG_1921

The Chirashi Sushi ($38) is what I call “Happiness in a bowl”. Even the sushi rice is worthy of mention.

_MG_1936

Grilled Assorted Mushrooms ($22) were flavorful and tasted mildly sweet. Must have been coated with butter!

_MG_1938

The Pan Seared Foie Gras with Wine Jelly ($35) was melt-in-the-mouth smooth. Definitely will order this every time we visit Takumi!

_MG_1943

Again, the Grilled Lamb Rack Marinated with Apple Miso Sauce ($25) was very tender but it was even saltier than the previous visit!

_MG_1930-001

Thanks for everything! Enjoyed the company! πŸ˜€

Chanelle’s Baby Shower

_MG_1727

Motherhood has been wearing me out almost completely but let’s leave this out for today. I’m sharing some photos taken on the day of Chanelle’s baby shower so this is gonna be a happy post! πŸ˜€

IMG_1643

Little misschewy was supposed to have her hair shaved off to mark her full month but since we were expecting guests at Chanelle’s baby shower later in the evening, we decided to put this till another day and just snip a bit of her hair off as part of the ritual. I mean, very poor thing right?! Your relatives come and visit you for the first time, and you are BOTAK! OMG.

IMG_1644

Heh.. The little one was protesting to have a bit of her hair snipped off by her papa. She was really reluctant!

IMG_1645

IMG_1649

All of us were very stressed! Cuz misterchewy seriously don’t know which strands to pick! LOL. -_-

_MG_1675

Our nanny helped to give Chanelle a bath and changed her into a cutesy romper dress which my mum bought specially for the baby shower. Here’s my MIL carrying little one and misterchewy offering his prayers.

_MG_1679

_MG_1703

Chanelle was changed out of her dress as the material was a little thick and she started to get cranky. She was all smiles and also had her nap.

_MG_1712

_MG_1719

Most guests arrived between 5 to 6pm but this little lady boss woke up like around 7plus, 8pm?! Then nanny quickly changed her back into this dress. Haha.

_MG_1720

Displaying her gold and inviting everyone to take a look. LOLOLOL. Bought by my MIL and GMIL.

_MG_1728

This is Aily auntie, our nanny from PEM. We are really thankful for the tremendous help that she had given for the past 28 days. Also learned quite a bit from her, like the proper ways of carrying a newborn, how to bathe Chanelle, and many many more. We just cant thank her enough.

_MG_1729

We actually forgot to take photos with most of the other relatives and they had already left πŸ™

Little Misschewy Has Finally Arrived!

_MG_1458

SAY HELLO TO LITTLE MISSCHEWY!! πŸ˜€ Our little princess was born on 18th March, on a CHEWSDAY (Tuesday la) night! Guess what guys? My EDD was 12th March but everyone says that our baby knows how to enjoy life inside mummy’s tummy and refuses to come out so soon. Or maybe she enjoys going to work with me πŸ˜›

IMG_1323

During the wee hours of the morning at around 2-3am on 18th March, I started to feel really strong and unbearable contractions and this lasted throughout the night. I was drifting in and out of sleep because of the immense pain, and tried my best to time my contractions. The intervals got shorter with time and misterchewy decided that we should go to the hospital. I was pretty reluctant because I felt that I didn’t have enough sleep. LOL.

IMG_1326

Admitted myself slightly after 9am and was immediately shown into the delivery suite. Was asked to change into a robe and nurses did some checks on me before reporting to my gynae. I was told that my dilation was only 0.5cm! One of the nurses also administered me an enema and I washed up before being put on a drip which was to make my contractions even stronger to help with the dilation.

IMG_1328

The contractions became really excruciating and I felt like I was going to faint or die any moment! The hubs offered me his hand. No la I didn’t bite it but left quite a few fingernail marks on it. LOL. In the end, I begged asked for pain relief. EPIDURAL TO THE RESCUE!

_MG_1339

After that very shiok. The injecting of epidural wasn’t that bad after all. Better than having to bear with that bitch of a pain! I could still feel contractions but there wasn’t any pain at all. Felt so relaxed! My gynae popped in twice, first was to rupture my waterbag, and at around 4.30pm she worked her magic and increased my dilation to 5cm. Shall spare you the details.

IMG_1341

By late evening, I was damn sleepy already. Totally unprepared when gynae told me to start pushing. Besides, my lower body was feeling numb. I thought that I was using all my might to push already but my gynae told me, “You’re not pushing at all. You need to push harder.” Wah faints. Seeing that I was so tired, she told me to rest and she would be back in less than an hour. Sooo.. I took a nap and gynae came back at 7.30pm. This time, I was super determined and with the help of both gynae and nurse, I pushed until my face turned green and viola! Baby was delivered in 12 minutes! πŸ˜€

_MG_1354

That defining moment was truly indescribable. When a bawling Little misschewy was being tossed onto my tummy, I felt like I was going to burst into tears. It was all so surreal and I made a promise to myself that we will be her guardian angels and protect her with our lives.

I almost forgot to take photo of my ward until the very last day when I was supposed to be discharged. The ward looks not bad right? There’s also an LED television. Pardon the mess πŸ˜› The ward actually looks much tidier in this photo because misterchewy had helped to lug all the gifts and hampers home the day before.

_MG_1469

Also wanna mention that the food is surprisingly quite good! There is a menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner and you can check off the dishes that you want. I polished off all my food every single meal. How to lose weight?! Haha.

Valentine’s Day 2014 @ Tamashii Robataya

1497280_10152224857948748_82056681_n

So glad that Valentine’s Day fell on a Friday this year! I applied for leave, but not really because it’s V Day la. Went for my weekly checkup at Mount E and was told by my gynae to rest more because both mother and baby didn’t gain any weight for the past week. I admit that my schedule is getting more hectic as I’m getting close to my EDD but it feels good to be moving around because I really think it’s not good to be sedentary. The long weekend was a very fulfilling one for misterchewy and I because we accomplished quite a few tasks, albeit being very last minute as usual! And the photo you see above? We will definitely blog about it soon! πŸ™‚

IMG_1058

The husband had actually shortlisted a few places for our Valentine’s Day dinner and I was told to choose one that I like best. OMG all of them are Italian restaurants! Ok la more romantic but I was craving for Japanese food and suggested Tamashii Robataya because I had read some pretty good reviews. Reservations were made and we were there before 7pm. Was trying to decide between the omakase or set dinner and we agreed on the $128++ set dinner. If you have any dietary restrictions, feel free to let them know and they will have the particular dish replaced with something else of similar value.

_MG_1016

The Sashimi Moriwase is originally on the menu, which was only enjoyed by misterchewy. So sad that I could only watch him eat this. LOL.

Appetizer

Instead of sashimi, I was being served three types of appetizers in small portions.

Grilled assorted veg

I liked the grilled eggplant best from the Yaki Yasai Moriwase.

_MG_1029

After having small servings of the first few dishes, we were surprised that the Yaki Sakana was about the size of my palm. Before that, we were thinking how were we ever going to get full at this rate. Haha. The fish was grilled to perfection and was very juicy!

_MG_1036

I’m gonna say yes if anyone’s gonna ask me if we will revisit Tamashii, thanks to the Pork Cheeks Donburi which was very fabulous. Explosive flavors with every mouuthful! Will be back for this!

_MG_1039

Didnt really like the Asari Osui because the broth was too salty for me.

_MG_1051

Dessert of the day was Pumpkin Ice Cream on Pumpkin Cake which was pretty refreshing. The pumpkin cake tasted a little like caramel pudding though.

_MG_1046

Ritz Carlton Singapore Staycation Blog Review

_MG_8344

Happy 2nd wedding anniversary to us and happy birthday to misterchewy! Yes 9th September is another date on the calender that holds tremendous significance for the both of us πŸ™‚ We decided to celebrate one week in advance because I can’t get away from work this week. Today’s post will be a combination of a staycation review of The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore and how we celebrated this mega special occasion, The Chewys’ style! πŸ˜‰

_MG_8478

We checked in last Sunday, 1st September, at around 3pm after having a quick lunch at Marina Square. The check-in time is one hour later than most hotel’s standard check-in at 2pm. Time is money and money is time. When we stepped into The Ritz-Carlton, we were promptly whisked to the check-in counter and then asked if we wanted coffee, tea or juices.

_MG_8476

Before giving you a virtual tour of our hotel suite, here are some parts of The Ritz-Carlton that we explored. This is Chihuly Lounge, which is named after famed American Dale Chihuly. How does high tea sound?

_MG_8479

Greenhouse offers an attractive Sunday vintage champagne brunch from 12pm – 3.30pm, featuring an unlimited flow of MoΓ«t & Chandon, wines and selected cocktails accompanied by freshly shucked oysters, seafood, roasts, 50 French farmhouse cheeses and freshly baked soufflΓ©s.

_MG_8463

Swimming pool with plenty of sun tanning chairs.

_MG_8465

The gymnasium is located on the same floor as the swimming pool and is extremely well equipped.

_MG_8467

It is also the largest and most impressive hotel gym that I have come across so far.

_MG_8474

Business Centre

_MG_8473

_MG_8471

_MG_8259

Ok here comes the exciting part! I made reservations in mid July and prior to that, I chanced upon a Happy Birthday package on The Ritz-Carlton’s website (which I think is no longer available) and decided to take it up since we could upgrade to a Premier Suite upon availability at check-in. I’m not sure if this is common but we were elated that we were lucky enough to score a suite room on the 7th floor! πŸ˜€

_MG_8239

The Ritz-Carlton houses one of the largest guest rooms and accommodations of any hotel in Singapore, averaging 550 to 650 square feet, and The Ritz-Carlton Suite boasts a lofty 2347 square feet. Our luxurious suite spans approximately 646 square feet and features an unobstructed picturesque scene of Marina Bay.

_MG_8236

The separate bedroom also has an element of timeless elegance, which seem to be consistent with The Ritz-Carlton’s definition of the essence of luxury, evident from its contemporary furnishings and state-of-the-art technology.

_MG_8240

_MG_8241

Doors separating the bathroom and living room from the bedroom can be closed for enhanced privacy.

_MG_8245

The Ritz-Carlton is the first hotel in the world to be furnished with flushed wall-mounted 46-inch Hospitality LED TVs. There was one in our bedroom and another one in the living room.

_MG_8257

Even the bathroom is so spacious that guests can enjoy his-and-her sink vanities. Mirrors are anti-fog, so you can no longer use your finger to write “I love you” after coming out from a hot steamy shower. LOL. There is also a separate shower stall with rain shower feature. Wrap yourselves in His and Hers micro-fiber Ploh bathrobes after your shower!

_MG_8246

_MG_8293

_MG_8248

This is what I call the SEXIEST HOTEL BATHROOM in Singapore with the bathtub just beside The Ritz-Carlton’s signature octagonal window. Sorry this photo was taken in the afternoon when the sun was shining in, but I swear it looks sooo much better and also more romantic at night! The husband assured me that people staying at Mandarin Oriental and Pan Pacific won’t be able to see us because the windows are tinted on the outside. Anyway if you are scared, you can always lower the blinds. Ours was stuck and did not work. Oh wells.

_MG_8251

_MG_8283

_MG_8287

Asprey bath amenities

_MG_8290

Hair dryer in a bag. I used it after my shower and it gave me ridiculously soft and straight hair.

_MG_8254

Separate cubicle. Told you the bathroom is damn spacious!

_MG_8255

Walk-in closet. Are you thinking about playing hide-and-seek already?

_MG_8295

Back to the living room! There is an iPod docking station at the writing desk but what impressed me was the Bose audio system. Tuned in to 98.7fm and the sound quality was quite good!

_MG_8300

There were 6 lit-up drawers within the credenza cabinet in the living room and pulling each one of them out was like unveiling a mini surprise.

Our Happy Birthday package was inclusive of a small bottle of champagne.

Welcome amenity consisted of cupcakes, strawberries and a very adorable Ritz-Carlton lion soft toy! Since our staycation cost us the husband more than $600, misterchewy and I decided to maximize the length of time spent in our suite and agreed on in-room dining. We were also entitled to $30 hotel credit which could be utilized for dining, shopping or spa at The Ritz Carlton, and used it for our in-room dining. Unfortunately, we poured through the menu for 15 minutes and carbonara was the only dish that we wanted to order.

Glad that Marina Bay Sands was nearby and it was a good chance for misterchewy to try the truffle fries from Au Chocolat because I kept raving about it after a casual brunch session with my bridesmaids earlier this year. So, out went the mister while the missus lazed in the hotel room waiting for her husband to tabao food back from Au Chocolat πŸ˜›

Truffle fries from Au Chocolat are da bomb! Really the best of all the truffle fries that I have eaten. The husband agrees with me! Still tasted damn good even when they were cold (I ate some leftovers the next morning).

Spicy Chicken Wings (Au Chocolat) had a tang of spiciness but was quite salty.

Duck Confit (Au Chocolat) was quite dry and hard, probably because we left it there for quite some time. Busy taking photos πŸ˜›

The Ritz-Carlton’s Carbonara dish was quite well-executed, thick and creamy but I think the egg could be done better.

Earlier in the day, I googled and found out that the sun would be setting at around 7pm, so we planned everything well and made sure that our food was served before that. That way, we could watch the skies change gradually as we were enjoying our food.

We find that in-room hotel dining is an ideal way to spend a intimate and romantic night with your loved ones. You have all the privacy in the world, can be yourself and relax without having to worry about being judged by others. The bonus is having lovely music playing in the background and a spectacular night view of the city. It was just the two of us and we dimmed the lights for a more romantic feel. πŸ™‚

Feather beds and Sealy mattresses are used in all rooms, Club rooms and Suites. The bed was comfy but quite high. Think I have short legs because I had to tiptoe and hurl myself onto the bed. LOL.

This was the beautiful night view of MBS that we fell asleep to πŸ™‚

And of course, we soaked ourselves in the sexy hotel bathtub after dinner and played with bubbles πŸ˜› It was very therapeutic!
