Shunjuu Izakaya: Yummy Yummy Sumiyaki (Charcoal Grill)

Hot on the heels of our lunch at Ochre and Harry Potter movie date was dinner at Shunjuu Izakaya! My parents and brother arranged to meet us at Robertson Quay itself where the Japanese restaurant was located. Heh.. I must confess that BB Chew and I were still feeling quite full so we didn’t order much 😛

Sashimi Moriawase ($40)

We began the meal with a delectable selection of fresh raw fish that whetted our appetite and left us wanting more. Do I even need to elaborate further? 😛

Jagaimo Wakame no Kaki ($10)

These fried potato balls make a great snack! One was enough for me because it was quite filling.

Ninniku Cha-han ($6)

Don’t bother with plain white rice when you can have a bowl of fragrant garlic fried rice which is really satisfying to go along with those charcoal grilled sticks! Watch the calories though 😛

Sake Be-kon ($9 for 2 sticks)

We were fairly amused that the sticks used kinda look like ice cream sticks. That aside, the salmon rolled with bacon was nicely grilled with a slightly melt-in-the-mouth centre which was really amazing! I wonder how they did it!

Buta Bura ($5 for 2 sticks)

I absolutely fell in love with these pork belly sticks! Although lightly charred on the surface, these were incredibly succulent and tender!

Ebi Tempura ($15)

Tempura prawns were puny.. Kinda pathetic. Mehhh.

Shittake Nikuzume ($6)

My much adored shittake mushrooms wrapped in bacon! Surprisingly, the bacon wasn’t too salty for us.

Hotate Bacon Maki ($10 for 2 sticks)

These scallops rolled with pork were just juicy beyond words! The very first bite was unforgettable and I was really overwhelmed with surprise. This is definitely our favorite for the night!

I was really damn full but my mum insisted on getting a cake for me. One slice also 爽 la. Lol. It was a super yummy piece of chocolate tart from Laurent Bernard Chocolatier just directly opposite! Hmm.. Crunchy hazelnut praline and rich, smooth dark chocolate definitely gave me a sugar rush! Thanks to my dad for treating us to dinner! Personally, I find that the food is slightly over priced but I would still recommend Shunjuu Izakaya. It’s quite a nice, relaxing place to unwind with some yummy charcoal grill and beer or sake.
