Blackbird Cafe Singapore Food Review

DSCF1101

Blackbird Café has been around for a couple of years already but for some reason, we kept missing the golden timing for brunch! After my appointment with my gynae at Mount Elizabeth, we were kinda racking our brains thinking about what to eat. Too many choices when you are in town! And then I finally remembered about Blackbird Café which is located along Handy Road, in between Plaza Singapura and The Cathay! 🙂

DSCF1112

The hubs called to find out when’s the last order for brunch before we made our way there. After placing our orders, we were told that we had to wait for about 20 minutes for our food because there was a private event going on. Okaaay~

At least they made an effort to serve us our drinks first. Go Bananas ($9) for him and Mango Delight ($9) for me. Yummilicious and healthy fruit smoothies that weren’t overly sweet.

The many faces of misterchewy. I had commented that he badly needed a haircut. LOL.

I realized that misterchewy likes to order his food in big portions because he’s almost always ordering “Big Breakfast” if there’s one on the brunch menu. Sadly, the portion of the Big Breakie ($19) seemed miserable. He had chosen scrambled eggs, which came with bacon, a sausage, hash cake, tomato and sourdough bread on top of baked beans. The hubs wasn’t used to the hash cake as its texture was too soft and mushy for his liking. I suppose the rest of the items were ok for him but he didn’t look very satisfied.

I know I shouldn’t be eating anything that’s not fully cooked at this moment but I wasn’t able to resist the idea of having Eggs Benny (14.80) for brunch. Besides, my gynae advised me to eat eggs everyday 😛 Likewise for me, I was a little taken aback by its meagre size. I chose Portobello mushrooms over smoked salmon and bacon. Taste wise, it was mediocre as well. Nothing to shout about. Guess we won’t be back anytime soon!

Penny University Singapore Review

DSCF1052

How did you guys celebrate Halloween? It was pretty uneventful for misterchewy and I because he had been diagnosed with dengue fever last week and was battling this horrible virus at home. Prior to this, he was away for his first ever high-key ICT for 2 weeks and had to go outfield for 2D1N. I’m quite sure the stupid mozzie bit him during his reservist! >:( Poor boy had fever on and off for days, and also symptoms of dengue such as backache, rashes etc. He even blacked out and collapsed on the floor one Saturday morning! :O

DSCF1048

Glad that his condition improved by leaps and bounds! Since he was stuck at home (both mine and his) for more than a week, I took him out for some fresh air near my in-laws’ in the East. We wanted to check out another café nearby but I’m guessing they stop serving breakfast really early since lunch is served from 12pm onwards. Scrapped the idea because we were sure to wake up late on a Sunday. LOL. Penny University serves all-day breakfast! 🙂

DSCF1072

By the time we stepped out of the house yesterday, it was already past 12pm. Cute Halloween décor outside Penny University. The café is really small and packed to the brim. We had to wait in line for about 10 to 15 mins which wasn’t too painful.

DSCF1055

We had to place our orders at the counter and pay upfront. Instead of the usual table number tag, we were given this. Got number behind la.

DSCF1057

I asked for Peppermint Tea but was served Peppermint Hot Chocolate ($4). Okay nevermind. This is quite nice and not too thick.

DSCF1061

I love yogurt but I don’t usually order it outside. My bowl of Vanilla-infused Greek Yogurt with Granola ($6) came with blueberries and strawberry slices. It doesn’t have that sourish taste like other kinds of yogurt and I think it had been mixed with a little bit of honey. Anyway it’s a really delicious treat!

I knew the yogurt wasn’t going to be enough so I ordered the Cheese Toasties with Marmite and Tomato ($4.50) to share. You can also choose to substitute the tomato slices with poached eggs. Do you have any idea how much I love Marmite? I grew up eating it and I eat it practically with everything! I have it with plain rice, I dump a dollop of it in my corn soup, etc etc etc. Ok that was when I was still in primary and secondary school. LOL. So glad I ordered this!

DSCF1065

After eating fishball beehoon soup for so many days in a row, misterchewy finally had Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon ($12) for a change! Hahaha. Instead of toasted English muffins, the poached eggs were topped on sourdough toasts which were a good complement too. We certainly enjoyed our brunch at Penny University! The most pleasant surprise? Total bill came up to only $26.50. 🙂

Brunch at Nosh Restaurant & Bar with MissTamChiak & Michelleagy

IMG_7684

This blog post is not exactly overdue but Maureen‘s birthday celebration was! Her birthday fell on 30 May. Michelle and I wanted to give her a birthday treat and the three of us agreed to meet early June but the queen had something more important (than us) and it got delayed to exactly 3 weeks after her birthday. The queen asked for brunch and I suggested Nosh Restaurant & Bar at Rochester Park because I remembered that sometime back, Maureen didn’t get to eat crab tart at P.S Café and Nosh serves crab cake benedict. Ok la, not exactly the same thing but I’m sucha sweeeet friend right? *self praise* LOLOLOL.

IMG_7688

I very long never post outfit of the day (OOTD) liao! Hahaha. Looked at this photo for very long and I’m not used to seeing myself with shorter hair and fringe as compared to my previous hair length when we went for honeymoon. Wore a peachy pink toga dress with a black and gold belt! Love everything about the dress because of its bright color, flattering cut and light chiffon material! 😀

_MG_7679

Because of the *cough cough* haze, we took a cab to Nosh. This place seems quite popular because it was packed when we went in. And I’m glad I choped us a table! Not this one la. Hahaha.

_MG_7657

Can’t remember when was the last time we actually woke up so early on a Sunday to head out. I happened to be in a good mood and decided to doll up by applying lipstick and eye shadow, plus putting on falsies! Just eyeliner and blusher usually work for me. Haha ok la I know I’m lazy 😛

_MG_7659

The girls! Michelle and Maureen. M&M.

_MG_7662

Maureen and her fiancé, Kai. Upgrade and change status lo, finallyyyyyy!

So coincidental that we bumped into Amanda! She was seated at the table behind ours.

_MG_7671

Group shot taken by Amanda. Thanks babe!

_MG_7639

We placed our orders and the first dish arrived after a torturous 45 minute wait. Maureen and Kai shared a bowl of Truffle Mushroom Soup ($10) which smelled really gooood! We kinda regretted not ordering this and even though our mains were not served yet, we did not want to wait another 45 minutes just for the soup.

_MG_7642

Kai’s Seafood Aglio Olio ($22)

_MG_7646

Maureen’s Crab Cake Benedict ($18)

_MG_7651

Michelle’s Nosh Omelette ($16) which I thought looked really good. Was joking that the diced roasted potatoes looked like black carrot cake. LOL.

_MG_7649

The husband’s Lamb Burger ($19)

_MG_7653

I wanted to order the crab cake benedict as well but for the sake of variety, I went for the Smoked Salmon Benedict ($18) which was okaaaay. Nothing to shout about.

_MG_7654

Nobody sang praises for their food so I guess it’s really mediocre. It’s the company that matters! At least we got to talk and catch up with one another on what’s going on in our lives 🙂

_MG_7678

We thought that desserts might be better but we were wrong. The Toffee Date Cake ($12) was too sweet.

Shall end this post with a pic of us girls! Haha! Have a great weekend yeah!

PoTeaTo @ Yong Siak Street: Lazy Sunday Brunch with Friends!

_MG_8589

Hoho! Sorry this is yet another long overdue post from yours truly 😛 The secondary school friends met up to celebrate the September babies’ birthdays and we had brunch at PoTeaTo on a Sunday afteroon.

_MG_8592

PoTeaTo is at Yong Siak Street, some walking distance from Tiong Bahru MRT station. As you can see, the weekend brunch set is actually quite limited but the offerings are pretty attractive nevertheless.

_MG_8584

I think SS was the only one in the group who ordered the Avo on Toast ($14.80). Look at the generous amount of avocado!

_MG_8586

SS and MJ. These two guys used to sit behind me when we were in Secondary One. LOL.

_MG_8609

Chee and JH.

_MG_8594

The September birthday boys – CY and misterchewy!

_MG_8604

The Brekkie Platter ($16.80) features all my favorites on one plate! I didnt choose this but I koped a bit from the hubs 😛

_MG_8595

_MG_8601

I ordered the All American Breakfast ($14.80) because I thought it sounded really good from what I read from the menu but I overlooked that it was ‘baked’. Was kinda surprised when this was served and wondered if I did order this. LOL.

_MG_8618

This is so cute! PoTeaTo coffee art!

_MG_8614

Coincidentally or not, my friend is PoTeaTo’s chef! Ok by the time you read this, she’s no longer working there anymore. It’s such a pity and I can’t wait to find out what other big plans she has in mind! You go girl! 🙂

_MG_8620

It’s the weekend again! I promise my next post will be on our Bangkok trip! Stay tuned! 😀
