Tampopo: And what is it famous for?

My first visit to Tampopo was a year ago, on Valentine’s Day.
I remembered my date raving about the black pork served here.
He didnt sound too convincing so I didnt order it.
But ever since then, I have heard a lot of comments about it so I’ve decided to go there while organizing a friend’s birthday celebration. Plus the birthday girl is a fan of Japanese food.
There were 5 of us that night and we decided to share a few dishes so that we could save some room in our stomachs for desserts! 😛

The first thing we made sure we ordered was the Top Grade Loin Cutlet (A la Carte) ($25.80). We decided not to order the set because it was priced at $4 more for just a bowl of rice, soup and fruits. Ok let me claim that I did not manage to have a proper taste of the black pork. I merely had a small piece. I was busy taking photos of the other dishes that arrived and when my eyes went back to the black pork, there was nothing left. Imagine my horror. Those must have been hungry ghosts, i mean girls, that I had been hanging out with! So I cant really give a fair verdict based on that tiny piece of cutlet which I had 🙁
But it must have been really good to be eaten up so quickly!

Same goes for the Black Pork Mini Shabu Shabu Set ($21.80). Everyone was snatching for a piece of it. The soup tasted quite nice. And i loved the mushroom. The one and only piece. There were lots of veggies though.

We all love curry and the Ishiyaki Stone Grilled Beef Curry ($16.80) was like a godsend. It came with an egg yolk on top and we were contemplating if we should just eat it on its own or smear it all over. We mixed it into the rice in the end. It tasted really great! As mentioned, we love curry. 😛

Since Tampopo is famous for their black pork, someone suggested that we should also order the Black Pork Fried Rice ($10.80). Yes and we were sure glad we did! There were generous bits of black pork and prawns. Now I think fried rice goes better with black pork than char siew. Haha.

I think I’ll order a loin cutlet for my own consumption if I go there again in future!

Total bill came up to $88.40 after GST.
